Terms of service
The agreement between you and us when you use Between Papers. Plain English, and short.
Effective [Effective date]
1. Who we are
Between Papers is operated by [Legal entity name] (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [contact email]. By using the service you agree to these terms.
2. What the service is
Between Papers is a research agent. You give it seed papers, a question or a company's website; it finds and reads related sources and writes a report. The reports are written by AI models. No human expert reviews them. Every claim in a report links to the passage it came from so that you can check it, and you should check anything you rely on.
A report is research, not professional advice. It is not investment, legal, medical, engineering or financial advice, and it can be wrong or incomplete.
3. Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email address. Keep access to that inbox secure: anyone who can open the link can use your account. Each person gets 3 free previews; please don't create extra accounts to get more.
4. Your papers and questions
Upload only papers you have the right to use, for example through your institution, a subscription or open access. You keep every right you have in what you upload. You allow us to store and process it, including by the providers named in our privacy policy, only to produce your reports and run the service.
We never bypass a paywall. When the agent looks beyond your papers it reads only what is openly available.
5. Your reports
You may use your reports for any lawful purpose, including commercially. Passages quoted from other people's work remain theirs; cite the original when you rely on it. We do not publish your investigation without your permission.
6. Payment
The free preview costs nothing. Continuing a preview into the full report costs $149 (US dollars), charged when you choose to continue. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
7. Refunds
If you are not satisfied with a full report, ask within 7 days of purchase and we will refund it; this applies to single investigations, and packs are final. If a paid investigation does not complete to a full report, the payment is refunded automatically (for a pack, the investigation's credit is returned to the pack) and we tell you. The refund policy has the details.
8. Fair use
Don't use the service to break the law or infringe anyone's rights, to upload malicious files, to probe or overload our systems, or to resell access. We may suspend an account that does, and refund any report it had not yet received.
9. Availability and liability
We work to keep the service running and the reports accurate, but we provide it as it is, without guarantees that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms; the effective date above changes when we do, and material changes apply only to reports bought afterwards. These terms are governed by [Governing law and courts, e.g. England and Wales].
